Can you believe that acupuncture can prevent colds and flu? Can make you recover from colds and flu faster?
“Acupuncture to Get Better Faster - If you have already come down with a cold or the flu, acupuncture treatments can help relieve symptoms you are currently experiencing including chills, fever, body aches, runny nose, congestion, sore throat and cough. While bringing some immediate relief, treatments will reduce the incidence of an upper respiratory tract infection and shorten the length of the illness. Acupuncture for Prevention - Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can prevent colds and flu by strengthening the immune system with just a few needles inserted into key points along the body's energy pathways. In Oriental Medicine, disease prevention begins with a protective layer around the exterior of the body called wei qi or defensive energy. There are acupuncture points known for strengthening the circulation of blood and energy and for consolidating the outer defense layers of the skin and muscle (Wei Qi) so that germs and viruses cannot enter through them. If you catch colds easily, have low energy and require a long time recuperating from an illness your wei qi may be deficient.”(1)
As an acupuncturist, I recognize how acupuncture can help sports injuries and athletic players' mental and physical health. If acupuncture is used with Qigong healing (energy healing) together, from our clinical experience, it will be much more effective.
In China, there are words “If tendons extend one more inch, you can live for 10-year more”. If your body and tendons are supple, the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood are smooth. In Chinese Medicine theory, it’s status of a healthy body, because every cell can get enough nourishment and good metabolism. According to the theory, stretching the body and doing Yoga are very benefit for human being. However, they keep body healthy by physically stretching tendons, from superficial body to the interior. Theoretically, tendons can be softened, because function of the interior organs are balanced with one another. The stabilized organs make Qi and blood flow smoothly, which have muscle and tendons get enough nourishment.
Practicing qigong is to stabilize and enhance the function of the interior organs, which also can make tendons soften. It’s physiologically soft, not physically. It’s from interior to exterior of the body. Qigong more focus on the root of a healthy body (inner organs), in order to achieve soft tendons, which is manifestation, and eventually approach longevity.
